Things are happening.

We have had quite an insurance fiasco due to the new Obamacare guidelines and how they have affected Kevin.  He was put on Medicare this past May and dropped by his previous insurance provider.  A few weeks later we were told by the transplant center that he was put on hold for the transplant due to the insurance change that we did not agree to or even know was happening.  The new guidelines say that someone on dialysis for 3 months is automatically switched to Medicare.  Kev's health care went from 100% coverage to a much more expensive premium and only 80% coverage.  For the healthy person this wouldn't be so bad but when facing a transplant those dollar signs are HUGE.

Under the guidance of our dialysis center's social worker and the transplant center, we have begun fundraising.  God led four amazing women from our church to us to head up fundraising.  They are amazing and have gotten the ball rolling quickly.  They have been contacting people we know and asking if they would get involved.

This Friday night there will be a fish fry in our honor at Maple Grove UMC in South Bend, IN.  It is on the corner of Maple and New Roads just south of South Bend.  It will be from 5-7 p.m.  The dinner is free but they will be accepting donations to put towards Kev's medical expenses.   This is the  poster that a dear friend of ours who pastors this church made for the fish fry.
Another friend of ours is a Scentsy rep and is doing a Scentsy sale in our honor.  You can shop online at  Jen's poster that she made for this fundraiser is below.  This fundraiser is going on now through September 30.
A couple of moms that are in the mom's group that I lead at our church are holding a garage sale fundraiser for my family on September 27 from 8 a.m. to noon here in Bloomington.  They are in need first of all for items to sell.  Do you have things that you were planning on giving away or that are laying around waiting for a garage sale?  Would you consider donating them to this garage sale?  I would be MORE than happy to pick up items and get them to where they need to go.  I can also give you the address of where to drop off donations if you contact me.  They also need people to help with pricing and tagging items before the sale.  Then obviously they need shoppers on the day of the sale.  If you are not on FB and need the address, please contact me for that information.  You can also leave a comment on this post if you need the address for the sale or have donations that need picked up.

With the help of our fundraising "gurus" we have put together a Go Fund Me site where donations to Kev's medical expenses can be made.  You can find that site at this link:

Our church has also set up an account for donations to be made to.  These donations are tax deductible.  They are working on getting it set up on the website but for now checks can be made out to ECC with the subject line "Flick's Medical Fund".   The address for our church is 503 S. High St., Bloomington, IN 47401.  You can call the church, if you have any questions at 812-312-0502.

If you would like to help in the fundraising some way or have an idea for a great fundraiser, please let us know.  We will pass this info on to our amazing team.  You can leave a comment on this post.

We are expectant and know that we will get through this obstacle too because of promises like this one.
"Fear not for I have redeemed you, I have summoned you by name, you are mine.  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.  When you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.  When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, the flames will not set you ablaze."
Isaiah 43:1-2
