Our Christmas

We had a great Christmas.  Pumpkin woke up at 4 a.m. but I got her back to sleep with us in our bed.  Then Peanut was up and ready to go at 6 a.m.  We convinced her we needed a bit more sleep.  (We had been up until 2 a.m. the night before getting things ready for the morning.)  At 7 a.m. I woke up to this whispered conversation from Peanut to Pumpkin:
"Hey, are you awake, Sissy?  It's Christmas.  Santa came.  Do you want to go down stairs?  Wake up!  We can open our presents."  Then she began to tickle Pumpkin to really wake her up.  Daddy and I started laughing and we all headed downstairs.  This is what the girls found under the tree.
Peanut got the "Hungry Hippo" game as she calls it and Pumpkin got "a live baby that goes potty" as she calls it. They were so excited! IMG_1210 IMG_1205
We found the empty plate and letter from Santa which always amazes Peanut. IMG_1195
Peanut's reaction to this present was the best. She has been playing school just about every night after she gets home from school. I found a pretend school set for her to use in her play. She was so excited! IMG_1219
Pumpkin loved all of her presents but got the biggest kick out of the box from her new double doll stroller. Isn't that how it always goes? IMG_1235
We had a relaxing day together. Later in the day we headed off to visit family before the Blizzard of 2012 hit. We were thankful to be safe and sound after we found out that at least 13 inches of snow fell in our town. Christmas is still rolling for us now with family get-togethers and such. We are so blessed and have so much to be thankful for.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to everyone!
This is one of my most favorite verses from the Christmas story:
"But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart."
Luke 2:19
I can not even begin to imagine how she felt that night when she gave birth to the Son of GOD in a tiny stable surrounded by shepherds who bowed in awe to her tiny son with that bright star gleaming down upon her and the songs of angels singing. So many things to treasure and ponder. I hope we all take time today to treasure and ponder the wonder of what He has done for us, for YOU.

Our Family

Advent 2012

December 22 - The girls and I made snowflake tortillas for an after dinner treat.  They declared it a pajama day as you can tell and that resulted in a crazy hair day for Pumpkin.
Snowflake Tortilla Snack
December 23 - After we put the girls to bed, we surprised them by going back upstairs and yelling "All aboard," complete with Daddy's train sound effects. We did our own Polar Express. We loaded them in the van with blankets and their tickets for the Polar Express. They found snacks, hot cocoa, and the movie all waiting for them.
We drove around trying to find some great Christmas lights displays. We hit the jack-pot with a house that had 47 blow-up Christmas thingamajigs. The girls thought it was amazing!
When we got back home, the girls got to camp up by the Christmas tree for the night.
December 24 - We went out for supper with some sweet friends at a local Indian restaurant before heading to our church's Christmas Eve service. This is my dear friend. We are getting to know her and her family much better. They are such sweet, wonderful friends and our kids love to play together. Win, Win! IMG_1160
After church we headed home where the girls got to open their first pajamas! IMG_1167
We celebrated the birth of Jesus by having a birthday cake together. IMG_1187
This brings us to Christmas Day! We have done so many fun and wonderful things together this month. That is what it is all about for me. I just want to create fun memories for my kiddos! I think we did just that.

Snow Day

Thursday it rained and rained and rained.  It was gross.  By afternoon the winds had really picked up and by the late afternoon/early evening, there were snowflakes.  The wind beat against our apartment as the snow swirled.  At 5:30 a.m. Friday morning my phone rang to tell us that school had been cancelled.  Peanut who woke up at 7 a.m. was bummed that she would not get to have her Polar Express Party at school (this was her last day before the break).  Once she looked outside she forgot and was so excited about the snow.  Pumpkin asked, "Is is Christmas now?"

In the afternoon we went to a friend's apartment so the kids could play out in the snow.  They had a ball!  Here are some pictures from our snowy afternoon.

Date Night

A really great friend of mine asked if she could watch our girls one evening so Hubby and I could have a date.  It worked out perfectly because I had found out the university cinema was having a preview of Season 3 of Downton Abbey which Hubby and I love.  I decided to surprise him with a fun evening.

We dropped the girls off for an evening of fun at my friend's then headed out.  We ate first at a Mediterranean restaurant that we love.  We had just sat down and told the waitress what we wanted to drink when we heard that horrible sound of cars hitting each other.  I remember catching a glimpse of the car and thinking, "It's going to come into the front window."  In that split second, I didn't know what to do.  Thank goodness there is a huge, steel light pole in front of the huge front window.  The car ran into that and caused it to veer to the right and hit a very solid limestone wall right at the front door of the restaurant.  Thank goodness everyone was for the most part.  We were all so thankful for that light pole and the solid wall.  Goodness!  What a way to start a date!

Here is the car sitting in the entrance of the restaurant.  That window to the left is what the car was headed for. You can see the dent and scratches on the driver's door from where he hit the light pole that we are so thankful for.
This happened at the restaurant we were eating at for date night! Thankfully everyone was okay.
After our hearts stopped racing and the police had everything cleaned up, we ate a wonderful supper before heading to the campus. The preview of Season 3 was wonderful. We are really looking forward for the new season to begin. It was fun to hear all of the other fans chatting about the series. Date Night
Our night ended with us arriving home to realize we both had left our keys inside of the apartment! Whoops! The girls had fun playing in the van for the 30 minutes we had to wait for the maintenance man to come. Quite an exciting evening! season to begin

Advent 2012

December 15 - We were invited to a friend's house to make gingerbread houses.  This was the first time I have ever made one.  Peanut had been asking to make one for about a month so she was really excited.  We had a great time!  Making a Gingerbread House

This girl...she LOVES babies.  Any time there is a baby around, she wants to hold it and love on it.  She is going to be an incredible Mommy someday and an exceptional "baby nurse"!
