Birthday Balloons to Heaven

Sending Birthday Wishes to Mimi
Today was Mimi's birthday. She would have been 72 years old. Gigi has been here with us for a few days so I wanted to do something special to celebrate her life and her birthday as a family. A few weeks ago via Facebook and one of Daddy's family members, I saw a great idea to celebrate loved ones birthdays who are in Heaven.

This afternoon I snuck out to Kroger to get "Celebration Mimi" started. When I got home we all walked to a nearby grassy field with a bunch of balloons. The girls were so excited to see the balloons and trying to figure out what we were going to do with them. "Are we going to play a game, Mommy?" asked Peanut.

When we got to our spot, I asked if they remembered whose birthday it was today. MIMI'S! I prodded, "Can we celebrate with her?" Peanut said, "No, because she is in Heaven."

"But what if we sent these balloons to Heaven just for her from us?" This created quite a buzz of excitement from the littles one who was determined she was going to hold all of the balloons not quite understanding what exactly we were up to. We picked out 4 balloons to send to Heaven and 2 to keep, then got in position. Gigi told the girls to give the balloons lots of kisses for Mimi which they did with great joy. They were so excited.

Then 1, 2, 3...off went the first two balloons, rising so fast to the Heavens in a glorious sky. Next we sent off our last two.

The girls each got a balloon to keep and we tied them to their wrists when all of a sudden a beautiful purple balloon unexpectedly started off to Heaven followed by tears from Peanut who had picked the purple one to keep. She watched it rise, rise, rise and we consoled her. We told her how special it was going to make Mimi feel to know that she sent her favorite colored balloon up to her for her birthday and promised her another purple balloon very soon.

We came back home to sing Happy Birthday to Gigi (whose birthday was last Wednesday) and Mimi and have cake. Peanut wanted to know if we could send birthday cake to Mimi in Heaven.
Celebrating Mimi and Gigi's Birthday
I never want the girls to forget who their Mimi was and who she is. I think we have a new birthday tradition that was very well received by Peanut and Pumpkin.

I spent the day listening to Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline and falling in love with their music just like my mom did!
