Pumpkin's One!!!

She's One!
How did a year go so fast? How did my little tiny baby, turn into this toddler? We are still in shock that she is one. It is impossible that she has made this rite of passage already. The honest truth is that yes, she has. Last night at 6:24 p.m. she was exactly one year old.

She got to celebrate one day early, though. We partied all day on Monday due to Daddy's schedule. You must have your Daddy present to celebrate your birthday, so we bumped it up a day.
She's One!
Gigi and Special Friend drove down to be a part of the festivities. Pumpkin decided a morning nap was in order for her day. Any good woman knows you must nap on your birthday! She was sleeping soundly when her guests arrived, so we woke up our smiling little bundle and took her out for lunch. She requested pizza for her birthday lunch. (Ok, so really her big sister translated her request for us as we weren't quite sure what "Ba," meant.) We took her to a nationally recognized pizza joint here in town for some killer pizza. Special Friend even said that it was the best pizza she had ever had!
She's One! She's One!
After our filling our tummies with pizza and garlic bread, we headed to a HUGE park to play and work off some of that pizza. The girls both had a ball playing. It was a gorgeous day and it felt so good to be outside and to be with family. We spent some time walking along the beautiful creek that runs through the park. Pumpkin thoroughly enjoyed watching the water.
She's One! She's One!
We then headed back to our home. The girls enjoyed some special Easter marshmallow treats that Special Friend brought them.
She's One! She's One!
Pumpkin opened her presents with lots of assistance from Peanut. She got some really neat things...some new books, an activity schoolhouse, MegaBlocks, clothes, her own phone and her very own baby doll.
She's One! She's One!
She's One! She's One!
I made a special birthday supper for our evening together. The menu included spinach salad with strawberries (Gigi was unsure about the strawberries in a salad, but we assured him this was an ok thing), baked salmon, roasted asparagus with parmesan, and baked macaroni cheese.
She's One!
After supper we let Pumpkin have her cake. She was very cautious with it which really surprised us. We thought for sure there would be a big mess and she would eat it FAST! She took her time and just enjoyed it. She did eat almost all of it. She requested a dark chocolate cake with buttercream frosting for her birthday. It was a good choice.
She's One! She's One!
She's One!
I chose the Baby Einstein caterpillar to decorate her first birthday cake. We have one Baby Einstein dvd that has been my salvation throughout our first year together. She loves this little DVD and it can give me 20 minutes when I am desperate to make dinner, clean, or just collapse for a bit. I can put her in the exersaucer put on the movie and say, "Here's the caterpillar!" She gets so excited to see that crazy little caterpillar at the beginning of her movie so he graced her birthday cake. He was super fun to make too and very easy!
She's One! She's One!
I am so glad that my mom passed on the cake decorating tradition and skill on to me. I love that I can do this for my little girls for their birthdays. It is alot of extra work, but it is fun and worth it.
She's One!
We had a fun evening together. Gigi and Special Friend took Peanut out for a bike ride for a bit. We played. We chatted. It was so nice. I think it was a great first birthday for Pumpkin. The only thing that would have made it even better would have been to have Dobbie and Papa with us. Our thoughts were not far from them. I really missed having them here to celebrate with us. We love them so much too!

We spent her actual birthday just resting and recuperating from our celebration. I think we wore the birthday girl out!
She's One!.
"A little girl can be sweeter (and badder) oftener than anyone else in the world. She can jitter around, and stomp, and make funny noises that frazzle your nerves yet just when you open your mouth she stands there demure with that special look in her eyes. A girl is Innocence playing in the mud, Beauty standing on its head, and Motherhood dragging a doll by the foot."

Hiking

Mama and her Girls
The weather has been absolutely gorgeous here. Just this morning I saw Daffodils and Crocus in FULL bloom. I was swooning. Flowers! Oh, how I love it. One thing I desperately am going to miss about our old home (which is currently for sale and needs to sell NOW, so if you need a new home in a great community, let me know ;) are the tulips I had planted along the driveway. I love tulips. Beautiful!
Gorgeous Day Gorgeous Day
Last Wednesday we took the girls to a local nature preserve for a picnic lunch and hike. It was so beautiful. Peanut had a ball hiking on her own and investigating everything. Pumpkin had a ball being bounced all about in her ATV...err, I mean, her all terrain stroller. (I just have to say that I found that thing at a garage sale for $10 and am so thankful I picked it up. It does a supreme job of going on hikes!)

Check out this little girl with pig tails. Oh, I love her!
Gorgeous Day

We found this Birch tree on our hike and were amazed by it's camouflaged appearance. It was just beautiful.
Gorgeous Day
We also turned one corner on our path and found this area of the forest floor covered with ferns that had just popped out of the ground. GREEN! It was beautiful and another reminder that spring is here.
Gorgeous Day
Here is the little dictator in her stroller. She let us know when we had stopped for too long and needed to get going again. She is good at that.
Gorgeous Day
It was a perfect day. After our hike, we took the girls to a park with a playground. Peanut does not get the whole park with playground and park without playground. She was a bit disappointed when we got out of the car at the nature preserve and there was no playground. We made it up to her.

Pumpkin is all over the playground thing and showing her adventurous, brave spirit. Oh dear!

Storytime....
Peanut has a new "friend" named Olie. This is pronounced with a long o sound. They are phone friends and talk on her Barbie phone all of the time. He calls to tell her when he is sick. The other day he called and told her he had a stinky bug in his house. He has also asked her to a movie about dinosaurs and to go to Kroger's after. We haven't let her go yet. She is only 3 and he is a boy...albeit imaginary...but still. Yes, he is imaginary, but we feel like we know him well. If we do let her go, Daddy says we have to give her a curfew. We're not sure if it should be real or imaginary, though.

Pumpkin...well she is just ornery. Our friends up north are convinced that I am exaggerating because she was so sweet and ladylike. Well...she is ornery folks! She has now figured out how to climb up on Peanut's little rocking chair and climb on to the couch. I also saw her standing in our little toy wagon last night hanging on to the handle bar. She then forward flipped herself out right onto the floor on her back. Give that baby a 10!!!!

And to end with, my favorite picture from our hike.

It Felt so Good

Cake Ball Party
The girls and I had so much fun on our almost week long visit to Gigi's house. We spent time with family and friends. I was really missing them and it felt so good to be with them again. I was able to spend an afternoon leisurely lunch with a wonderful friend while Gigi watched the girls for me. It was a sweet time of catching up and just laughing. It felt so good.
Cake Ball Party
We spent time with a group of girlfriends and all of our kids making cake balls which were created by Bakerella. They were scrumptious but the fellowship was even better. It did my heart and soul so much good to be with these women. It felt so good.
Cake Ball Party
There was also time visiting aunts, Gigi's coffee buddies (so he could show off his girls), and lots of great times with Special Friend. We went out to eat with her a few times and after Daddy arrived we all played Dominoes together. (If you see Daddy soon, be sure to ask him how he scored at Dominoes. He will "proudly" tell you, I am sure. Heehee!) All of this felt so good.
Gigi's House
We visited our old church and saw sweet, friendly faces who were thrilled to see our little family. It felt so good.
Gigi's House
It was a great trip and it went so quick. Thanks to all you special people who made us feel so loved up north. We love you all so much!

And two little pictures of Pumpkin who took a nap with wet hair and woke up looking like Elvis.

Now we are home again and living it up in our little southern community.

Surprising Gigi

Last week Gigi and Special Friend made the trek down to see us. Gigi did not know that we had a little something up our sleeves that Special Friend was in on. After they arrived we headed to a yummy pizza place. As we ate and chatted I turned to Gigi and said, "Now, I just want you to know that I don't want you guys to leave so late tonight because I don't want the girls to go to bed in the wee hours of the morning." His expression was priceless because he thought I was telling him he had to leave early but he wasn't quite understanding the last part. I then announced, "Well, the girls and I are going to go back with you today." Heehee! He was so surprised and so excited.

The day was just too beautiful though to spend it in the car so we took the girls to a park here in town for some play in the warm 74 degree temps. It was beautiful! Here are some pictures to prove that fact.
Park! Park!

Park! Park!

Park! Park!

After our park adventure and some last minute packing, we jumped in the van and headed home with Gigi for a week of family and friends! It was wonderful to be back up north. Oh, how I had missed it.

Spring has Sprung

First Trip to the Park this Year First Trip to the Park this Year
Finally...it feels like spring is here! We have been going on walks for the past few days and each day you could just feel it, the transition from winter to spring. Today when I picked hubby up after class, there were flowers planted in the planters on each corner around campus. It brought a smile to my face. Ahhh! Oh and those birds, we just can't get enough of their beautiful singing.
First Trip to the Park this Year First Trip to the Park this Year
Monday night after Daddy got home from school we packed up the girls and went to the park. It was our first time there this year. We even hit up a new park in town that we hadn't gotten to visit last fall. I am telling you, this town has a ton of city parks. It's kind of fun to get in the car and say, "Which park are we going to today?"
First Trip to the Park this Year First Trip to the Park this Year
The girls had a ball. Peanut who last fall was very timid at the playground, took off at full speed to the playground. She climbed everything, went down every slide and even rolled down a hill. Daddy and I both commented on the change in her confidence. We were so proud of her. She has always been good at striking up "playground friendships" and that hadn't changed. Of course each new friend was her "best friend" but so are the guys building the new apartments behind us, the woman in the parking lot at Wal-Mart today, and so on. She has alot of "best friends." ;)
Dinner with Friends
On Sunday evening we were able to meet my best friend and her family for supper. The reason they were nearby was DisneyWorld. Ok, well we don't live near DisneyWorld but they just happened to be flying out of a nearby airport to go to DisneyWorld. It was so good to see them and catch up face to face. We hadn't seen each other since Thanksgiving. Yikes!
Dinner with Friends
The big reason they were going to DisneyWorld is the two people in the below picture with Pumpkin. They are my BFF's grandparents and they surprised them a few months ago by telling them they were taking them to DisneyWorld. BFF said that her grandparents were more giddy than her own children about the upcoming trip. Isn't that just the sweetest?
Dinner with Friends
It doesn't get cuter than this next picture. It just doesn't. This picture makes my heart just smile! She talked about him almost the whole way back home. They are buddies.
Dinner with Friends
I did make the mistake of telling Peanut where our friends were going and that did not go over well. She was pretty sad that she wasn't going also. Some sweet talking and a bag of peach rings cured her and she was fine after that. Whew! Close call!
Dinner with Friends
And now...just so you know and can be aware. There is a cabinet thief on the loose. She seems to be attracted to mixing bowls most specifically. She typically is wearing only one sock. She will more than likely blow raspberries at you. She will lure you in with her smile. If you have any information regarding the suspect please call her Mama or leave a comment.
