Slow Down

We think we might have another curly headed sweetie on our hands. Pumpkin's hair is getting longer. The ends always flip up. It really cracks us up because it so fits her personality since she is so busy, she should have "busy" hair. She fell asleep taking her afternoon bottle so I took a picture of that sweet calm. You can see just above her ear the little flip of hair.
I think we can also officially call her a walker. Oh, how it almost hurts to type that. In my head I know she is pretty much a walker, but in my heart she is NOT. How can my baby be walking? How can she be turning one in a little over a month? How did it happen so fast? Each day I look at her and can't believe the changes I see in her. I think part of it is just the not knowing if she is our last or if we will someday have another precious baby. I want to cling to each moment, each milestone but they come so quickly and just take my breath away.

And then there is our first baby, the one who made us a mommy and a daddy. She has transformed into a girl before our eyes. Amazing! Why does it have to go so fast? Some days she wants to be a little girl and some days she wants to fill our shoes and be grown up.
In Daddy's Shoes
I stumbled on this quote the other day and it is exactly how I have been feeling lately, exactly how I want our days to be.

"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so. One day, I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in the pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return."

Winter Days

Is it spring yet? We are so ready!!! We did have some warmer weather over the weekend! I was able to take the girls for some walks. We were so thankful for that.
Taking a Walk
It looks as if this week is going to be cold and possibly snowy again! Drats! I guess this cold weather will make us that much more grateful for spring days. We did hear lots of birds when we were out walking. That is always a good sign of things to come.

We have been doing lots of activities here at home to keep us from going stir crazy. (If you read my crafty blog, sorry for the overlap of pics. They are cutey pie kiddos, though. It shouldn't be a problem to look at them again!)

And lots of RASPBERRIES!!!!! And GIGGLES!!!!!!!

And snuggling!!!!

Do you see that little doll Pumpkin is holding? We had "lost" it and found it last week. She went nuts over it. She smooshed it in her face, hugged it, and jabbered to it. She LOVES her baby doll. It makes us melt like butter when she is loving on that baby doll. SWEET!

Happy Valentine's

Hope you all had a sweet Valentine's Day. We did. We were together and that is ALL that mattered. I may be prejudice but I think I have the two sweetest Valentines in the world. Judge for yourself!
Happy Valentine's Day! Happy Valentine's Day!
We ate out at our favorite Mexican restaurant. We had a deal! I read Mommy Creative's blog and found out that was selling $25.00 gift certificates for $2.00 each!!! I'm not joking. This is for reals. And it worked! We had to spend at least $35.00 so we paid like $10.00 for an incredible meal for all of us plus a tip! We have a few more to use too. I bought 5 $25.00 certificates and only paid $10!!!! AWESOME!

So back to my sweeties....
Happy Valentine's Day!
The big sweetie in that picture up there is letting me pick something off of Etsy. YEAH!!!! I love Etsy and have a snazzy pair of earrings that have been sitting in my favorites, all picked out.
Happy Valentine's Day! Happy Valentine's Day!
We gave each of the girls a small toy for Valentine's. Peanut was super excited to get her treasure, a Lemon Meringue doll. She asked, "Did Santa bring this to me?" To which I replied, "No, honey. Cupid did." Just kidding!

And two sweet videos to close with....
Watch out Beyonce baby...You've got nothing on Pumpkin!

In that last video, Pumpkin is taking steps. Have you noticed that I have not declared she is walking yet. I have been politely corrected by my BFF and my father who have both told me, "It looks like she is walking." I'm not there yet people...she's only taking steps. Until she walks across the room, she is NOT walking yet. And that room...well it will have to be the biggest room in our house.

Staying In

The girls and I have been staying home much more frequently this semester. My life is in semesters now that Daddy is in school. Daddy is out the door by 8:45 a.m. each morning. It is a lot of work to get us all up, ready, fed, Daddy's lunch and supper packed and out the door by then. It is just easier to stay home. It certainly helps me not spend money too. We've had fun together. There certainly are days when bedtime can't come soon enough. I have been able to establish a better bedtime routine and get the girls to bed earlier. That has helped so much. Pumpkin sleeps through the night better and Peanut goes to bed much easier. (Please someone go knock on the wood!)

Here is what we've been up to. We played "Hair Salon" and did Peanut's hair up in curlers and then got her all ready to go to the ball just like Cinderella.
Hair Salon Cinderella

We get a bit lonesome at supper time without Daddy so Peanut invited some dinner guests to supper one night.
Dinner Guests Dinner Guests
Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head came for supper. They enjoyed a yummy egg scramble and Oscar the Grouch Smoothies hence the green moustache on Peanut. (Click on the colored words for a link to my crafty recipe blog and a recipe for the smoothies.) Mrs. Potato Head even got asked to sleep-over with Peanut in her bed. So exciting. Mr. Potato Head was pretty bummed as he got put back in the Potato Head basket. I'm just not that Mom, the one who allows boys over for sleep-overs.

We've been busy making Valentine's Day crafts and cards. (Sorry to say that the ones I need to mail are still sitting on our table. Oops! We'll just call them belated Valentines!) Here is Peanut decorating our sliding glass door for Valentine's with the window markers she got for Christmas. They are wonderful. I highly recommend these Crayola wonders.

We made scratch and sniff paintings thanks to a great idea that I found over at Flowerpatch Farmgirl. This is a great blog that I stumbled on and it ends up we went to college together although we didn't really know each other. The internet and a small college make it a small world.
Scratch and Sniff Painting
But when we finally did make it out this past Thursday...well we lived it up! We went to the library and spent over an hour in the brand spanking new children's department. Have I mentioned how much I love our library? Heehee! I.LOVE.IT! Oh, how we missed it. So very thankful it is open again. Pumpkin was pretty excited too as you can see from the pictures below.
Silly Girl Silly Girl
Funny library story...Peanut has been asking a lot of questions about her body and what is inide of it. I told her we could find some books about the body. She IMMEDIATELY said, "I want to see the stomach. I want to see Jesus." I didn't say anything but when we found a book, she said the same thing again. I asked her if she thought Jesus lives in our stomachs and she said she did. Not sure where she got that idea. I told her that there would be pictures of what is inside our bodies, including the stomach but they wouldn't show Jesus inside of those parts. She could not figure this out because if Jesus lives inside of us, well then there should be a picture of Him included in the pictures of what is inside our bodies. So literal! :)

Back to our day out...We ate lunch at one of our favorite cheap-o places, Fazzoli's. We did a QUICK trip to Hobby Lobby and got groceries at Kroger's. One of us was pretty worn out. Take a guess who...
Driving the Cart Sleepy Shopper
We got Daddy picked up and off to work and have been home since that point. We did have a Mommy Friend and her two sweet boys over on Friday for a playdate. That was a fun morning for all.

Daddy decided to take Peanut out on a Valentine's date last night after work. I told Peanut in the afternoon that a boy who loved her very much was going to come and take her out for supper later in the evening. At first she thought it would be Gigi. I told her that he was a boy and he does love her very much but it was a different boy. She thought for a bit and said, "It's Jesus! He is going to take me on a date." Not sure how Daddy can compete with Jesus but Peanut was pretty excited to get all dressed up and go out for a late supper at Bob Evan's with her Daddy all by herself. She did say on the way out, "I'll miss you so much Mommy."
Valentine's Date with Daddy
This is what we're doing. Staying home. Being creative. Waiting and longing for spring!

Here are two short little videos of Pumpkin. You can just see her silliness ooze out of these. The second one shows her taking a step. She is SOOOOO close to just taking off. She can do 3 then falls down with a huge grin on her face. So funny! She knows that she has our attention when she does this sweet little trick. Even Peanut gets in on the fun and tells us when she looks like she's going to take some steps. She is currently sporting a big old purple bruise in the middle of her forehead. She whacked her head on the bathtub last night and our bed this morning. I'm thinking about changing her nickname to Bruiser. Any thoughts?

One last thing...we have been making and loving Jell-o Jigglers. Peanut calls them "Jingle Jell-os."

I stumbled on this website. OH NO! I think I might have fun with this....Photofunia. Look what I made.
Hosted by

I have a few short videos of the girls that I thought I would share with you. I had forgotten about them.

The first one is of Pumpkin having her first ice cream treat. Her Gigi is the culprit behind this. Haha! This would have been last summer probably in August.

The next video is of her swinging at one of our park visits after we had moved. She loves to swing just like her big sister. We are all very anxious for more spring like weather so we can get to the parks again.

This video is from September, I believe. We went to a festival with Gigi and Special Friend. We were watching some frontier dancing when they asked for volunteers from the audience. Peanut in a sudden display of bravery went right up to dance in the big circle. We were very proud of her. There is a distinct giggle at the beginning of the video that belongs to my sweet Back Door friend who was there with her family! She was giggling because every time Peanut was in the front she would turn to be sure we were all looking at her! (She is the littlest one in the circle.)

The last video is of the girls from just a couple of weeks ago. NO ONE in the world can make Pumpkin giggle the way Peanut can. I just love that!

Here a couple funny Peanut stories. If you follow me of Facebook, you will already have heard them. A couple of nights ago we were heading downstairs to get a book for bedtime and Peanut was telling me that Jesus is such a nice person. I heard her say, "Jesus is the King." I was thinking, "Wow! How quickly they get it. I am so proud of her." Just as quickly as I thought this, I heard her say, "Jesus is the king of the North Pole." Oh dear! Either she has him confused with Santa Claus or she knows that Jesus is the King of each part of the world and was just naming one part. I will hope it was the latter. ;)

Our days are busy so getting a shower somedays is a miracle in and of itself. If I do get a shower it has to be FAST as the girls are playing together while I am in the shower. Since I am in a rush the shaving of legs RARELY happens. Thankfully it is winter, so who cares. I believe it is an extra warmth barrier. ;) A few days ago, Peanut was touching my leg and said in alarmed tone, "Mom, you are pokey! I'm not!" It reminded me of a line from one of my Hubby's favorite bands..."Winter legs give me heart attacks!"

I believe that very soon I will be sharing a video of Pumpkin's first steps. She has been taking a step here and there. It is too fast so by the time I get the video camera, she is standing still or plopped down. This morning Daddy was leaving for school and she was standing by the couch. She turned herself around, took two small steps, and waved good-bye to him. It melted that heart of his into a puddle of mush, mine too! She is waving now and has started clapping. Love it!

February Fun

I have a minute to post some pictures of the girls. Pumpkin just woke up from her nap and Peanut ran up to "play" with her. Play means running around the room singing and acting crazy while Pumpkin sits in her crib and giggles hysterically at her sister's antics. Peanut hates it if I go up and get Pumpkin without letting her have this time to entertain her. So, why not? Pumpkin is safe in her crib, the monitor is on so I can hear them. It's a win, win!

I don't have many stories from the week. WE.HAVE.GONE.NOWHERE! I am NOT kidding in the least. Gigi and Marilyn were here on Monday and since then the girls and I have just stayed home. There are good things about this and very, very, very bad Mommy might go crazy, but hey that was already happening.

I do have a question for all of you devoted blog fans. I'm pretty sure I know the answer and it is that there is no answer but I thought I would throw it out there. Is there any way, any way at all to change a child's, shall we say, B.M. time? If you don't know what B.M. stands for, google it. I'm sure that'll be a fun experience for you. Anyways, I'm going NUTS with Pumpkin. Her "special" time is during her afternoon nap...HER.ONLY.NAP.PEOPLE! And it wakes her up and she cries. I get that, I would too but come on! Enough already. I can wait to lay her down, I can put her down doesn't matter. She will go during her nap and only like 30 minutes into her nap. Sometimes she will go back to sleep and I will feel guilty the rest of the time she is asleep because I know she has a dirty diaper...and well frankly, that's just gross but it is naptime and that equates Mommy's special quiet time. So if you have ANY advice, it would be greatly appreciated. I know I have a doctor in training reading this and a doctor's wife. Surely one of you can help me, right? (LOVE YOU BUNCHES!) And Funny Friend (yes, you know who you are) no funny stuff! At least I have not posted pictures of said B.M. like some people do. GROSS!!!!! that I have that out, airing in the breeze, shall we say...ON TO PICTURES.

We went bowling with our Community Group from church last Saturday. It was Peanut's first time bowling and she really enjoyed it. Daddy and I sacrificed our scores and let her "help" us. Definitely worth it!
Bowling Bowling

Like I said Gigi and Special Friend came to visit us on Monday and it was a welcome, welcome sight to see them pulling in. Oh, how I miss family. We had a ball. They played and played with the girls and then took us all out to Red Lobster for Daddy's birthday which was on January 26.

Love this orney little girl, yes I do!

The girls were pretty tired the next day which was totally fine because, hey, we had nowhere to go. So tired in fact that Pumpkin fell asleep in her high chair during lunch.
Something similar happened a few years ago in that same high chair.
(May 10, 2008)

We were under a big winter storm watch all day yesterday which did not amount to a whole lot in my opinion. I think that north of us got the biggest hit. I was kind of bummed about that. If it's going to be cold and it is winter...there needs to be snow and it is only February. But it is white outside now instead of brown. The girls had fun watching out our patio door at the enormous flakes falling out of the sky.

Peanut and I have been making Valentine crafts. You can check those out on my crafty blog. (If you click on the brown words, it will take you there.)

This week Peanut was dressed up in a white tutu which she had wrapped up over her shoulders. She announced she was getting married and I asked to whom. She said, "To Jesus. He's nice." Love her! Can't believe how fast she is growing up but thankful to see such a little girl yet. If you're a Mom, you understand!

(I'm hoping that by asking for advice, maybe, just maybe some comments will be left. Comments make a blogger feel needed, wanted or so I've heard. :)
