Happy Birthday Daddy!

This past Monday we celebrated Daddy's birthday. I invited Dobbie, Papa, and Gigi over for supper. We had garlic lemon chicken, twice baked potatoes, salad, homemade rolls (thank you Dobbie), and a yummy cake. I decided to make Daddy's birthday cake this year since I have been making Peanut's now. I settled on an iPod cake for our beloved techie. I think it turned out just right. I did want to add some ear buds, but I didn't get to that. See what you think....
Happy Birthday Daddy
Peanut was really into the whole birthday thing. She practiced singing "Happy Birthday" all day on Sunday and serenaded Daddy when she woke up Monday morning. She was so excited all day to celebrate. It was so fun.
Happy Birthday Daddy
For probably the past month, anytime Peanut sees a candle burning or anything resembling a cake, she starts singing "Happy Birthday". It is pretty cute. We're not exactly sure how she got so into birthdays, but she is. In fact tonight she wanted to play birthday and made cupcakes in her little kitchen!

So back to Daddy....we had a great evening with family. Daddy got some great new clothes. Peanut had fun helping him open his presents.

Speaking of Daddy's new clothes that he got on Monday, yesterday Daddy got home from school and Peanut right away said, "Daddy new shirt....and pants!" She remembered that what he was wearing was what he got for his birthday. We have an amazingly observant little girl on our hands.

She is also a blueberry loving child...see below.
Blueberries for Peanut
I froze a bunch of blueberries this past summer, so we have been enjoying that bounty in the dead of winter. I think she could eat a whole bag all by herself.

Things are going well now that we are through with gas leaks and all. I did have the wierdest thing happen on Daddy's birthday. It has been very cold again but our pipes didn't seem to be freezing. That is a constant struggle when it is cold with our laundry room pipes. We even have heat tape on them. Well I decided to do a load of laundry. While I was in the kitchen making the chicken, I heard water start gushing and ran to the laundry room. Water was pouring out from under the washing machine and spurting out from behind. I got the water shut off and the water valves and laid towels all over. That night when Papa was here, he checked everything out and said we had no busted pipes or anything. He really wasn't sure why it did that! We even finished the load I had in and did another one, and not one leak!!!! I didn't know if I should be thankful or not. I'm very leery to use our machine now. I certainly will be staying near when I do.

Well, one last picture of our sweet little Peanut.

Oh My, Oh My!

I was really hoping for 2009 to be nice and peaceful. Hmmmm....not starting out that way. One week ago from this past Thursday our region got hit with the coldest blast that it has seen in like 19 years. So cold that Daddy didn't have to go to classes because they were canceled...all local schools were canceled. So after we tucked Peanut to bed, we watched The Office and a movie. We stayed up late just hanging out. Before I headed to bed, I reminded Daddy that we needed to shut off the water to our laundry room because the pipes had frozen. We did just that and as we headed back up to the kitchen, I got this overpowering smell of gas. Now Daddy can't smell anything and my sense of smell is hypersensitive, but Daddy smelled it too. I knew it was strong if he could smell something. We both panicked. Daddy called Papa who said, "Get out and call 911!" I grabbed my sweetly sleeping daughter who was all cozy and warm in her bed and ran out to our car which was sitting out in the bitter cold. It was like -30 degrees! Our poor car didn't want to start but thankfully did. We decided Daddy would take Peanut and I to some friends who live nearby. He called 911 and drove us to their house. My adrenaline was pumping so hard that I was shaking, but not from being cold. Actually I didn't even realize how cold it was. I was so thankful we were out and so far our house was ok.

Peanut and I made it in to the safety of our friends' home after their precious little Weiner dog woke them up from his frantic barking. Thanks Oscar! Daddy headed back to our house to wait. Friend got Peanut and I all bundled up in blankets on her couch and we watched as the fire trucks went flying by. At that point, I thought, "Hmmm...I hope we didn't overreact and call out all these people on the coldest night in like forever." We didn't, they did in fact find not just one leak but like 3! Oh and that was after the firemen went to our poor neighbor's house and woke her up to tell her she had a gas leak!!! Ummm...wrong house. They were in her house for like 15 minutes before they realized. Poor Daddy was watching from behind the police blockade trying to figure out how to let them know, but he couldn't get near. Thankfully he had a warm car to sit in.

This all started at 12:30 a.m. The gas to our house was obviously shut off which meant no heat on the coldest night in two decades!!!! I was a nervous wreck...I could just see all the pipes freezing. Daddy ran to Wal-Mart and bought 4 space heaters to use plus the two we already had, and let all the faucets trickle. He came to Friend's house and we slept until 8:30ish.

That weekend Daddy and Papa both had to work, so Peanut and I stayed with Dobbie a couple of nights then with Gigi one night. On Monday Daddy and Papa got the leaks and gas pipes all fixed and replaced. In the midst of this, we found out the regulator on our water heater broke, so we had to replace that. Papa and Gigi did this for us on by Wednesday morning we had heat and hot water. We actually had heat again on Tuesday.

Let's just say...I am so thankful that our laundry room pipes were frozen and that we went downstairs to shut the valves off. Had we not done this? Well, I don't even want to go there. Thank you Lord for your safety and protection. Oh and our pipes? They unfroze without bursting. Another added blessing!

Everything else seems so not important but I know you're all dying for pictures of Peanut so I will end with that.

I made some bean bags for Peanut last week. She had fun measuring out her own fabric for her project. Ha!

Dobbie surprised me in a great way. This gorgeous creamy yellow Kitchen-Aid mixer showed up on my doorstep for my birthday. Peanut and I tested it out right away by making Peanut Butter cookies. It is awesome! Thank you so much Dobbie and Papa.

Peanut got some snow play in with Gigi during our stay with him. She just doesn't seem to mind the cold at all. She gets this trait from Papa. The rest of us get cold quickly. And yes, that is my little tiny Peanut on that sled behind that big tractor. Oh...that made Mama's heart pitter patter.

Well, that's it for now. Hope you are safe and warm!

We have had quite a bit of excitement around here, not necessarily the good kind either.  Due to this excitement, I have not had time to blog and have been without an internet connection for a few days.  But I have a good friend who blogged about our ordeal.  You can go to her site The Back Door to catch up a bit on what has been happening.

I should be able to blog a bit in the next few days.  Let me just say that we are very grateful for the Lord's protection on our family and our home!

Hodge Podge

Some random fun pics from our weekend....
Daddy gave Peanut a hotdog for lunch on Thursday. She requested two by the way! :) After he got her already to go, he got his hot dog ready by putting it on a piece of bread. Of course, she then had to have her own bread which typically she doesn't like. She lined all her cut up hot dog pieces on her bread and was so proud of herself. She didn't eat the bread, by the way!

And what girl doesn't grin over getting chocolate? This little girl does!

On Saturday Peanut got to enjoy her first bubble bath experience. Living in the lap of luxury as her aunt said....
Bubble Bath Bubble Bath

We did things a bit backwards because after her bath she got to paint with the new gel paints that she got for Christmas. That should have come before bath time as she painted up and down her arms and turned it into finger painting.

Today Peanut and I made a cute little snowman. We learned about circles and sizes. She had alot of fun sticking on the shape stickers to decorate him.

Daddy is going back to college! Today was his first day. Peanut and I are very proud of him. We made him a yummy brunch of eggs, bacon, toast, coffee, and orange juice. The bacon and eggs were a bit overdone though due to Peanut taking a spill of the kitchen chair that she was standing on to help me. She is fine! Oh, it scares me when she tumbles like that. But as you can tell from the picture she was ready to dig in to her brunch.
Off to School

Daddy is going back to finish college in the field of Informatics. I am sure he will fill you all in about it. It is an I.T. degree and will deal with working on computers, something he loves to do. He is excited about this new venture. It will be a busy semester between class schedules, work schedules, Peanut, and a new baby coming in April.

Speaking of baby...he/she is doing fine. We are in our 28th week of pregnancy! I can not believe how fast it is going. I have another doctor appointment on Jan. 19th and after that I will start going every 2 weeks. That will make it go even faster. The baby is moving alot. For awhile it was much more active than Peanut ever was, but now it is moving about the same. This one has found my bladder as a good resting place and trampoline. I have to use the restroom alot!

Well that is where things are at right now! Hope you are all doing well!

Monday night we spent the evening with Dobbie and Papa to watch the Fiesta Bowl. They are huge OSU fans as is Daddy so they were very excited about the game. I'll just leave it at that and not mention how the game ended....sorry OSU fans! But I have to share pics with you of the most beautiful OSU cheerleader! Due to our trip to see Daddy's sister, we came home with lots of new clothes for Peanut (hand me downs from her older cousins) and in the treasures was the cutest little OSU cheerleader outfit! Thank you so much sister-in-law! It was perfect timing for her to wear Monday night. I think she was absolutely adorable.

Ok, I just have to metion you see those noodles drying on a rack behind my daughter? Dobbie was going to make chicken and noodles and realized she didn't have any noodles, sooooo she made her own! I was so impressed and boy were they sooooo yummy!

Also, please don't be afraid to leave comments! I miss the comments! We love to hear from you all!

Catch Up!

Merry Christmas
I have so many pictures to share with you and things to share. We have been busy catching up with friends and family over the holidays. The Friday after Christmas Day we were invited to Gigi's sister's home to celebrate with her family. Peanut had a ball playing with the older cousins and with the "meow meows" as she still calls cats. She had alot of fun helping everyone open their presents too! Everyone complied lovingly to her...I mean who can resist this cute little person?

When we headed out that night, we realized that some serious fog had set in and we got fogged in at Gigi's house for the night. The next day we met up with 2 of my old college roomies for lunch. It was wonderful to spend time with them and catch up especially since one lives quite a distance away now. We ate lunch together and then hit a local coffee shop to get some yummy drinks before saying our good-byes.

In the next two pics you can see whose child is well behaved and happy, while another child was using HIS straw for spit balls!!!! (Heehee!)

Later that night we went to see Dobbie and celebrate her birthday with her. We had gone shopping a few days before Christmas together and stumbled on Paula Deen's new line of cookware at Kohl's. Dobbie spotted her new percolator in orange and drooled all over it, so I hid it in my basket and that is what she got for her birthday! She and Daddy tried it out and thought it worked pretty well. It is super cute too!
Happy Birthday Dobbie! Happy Birthday Dobbie!
And then this picture just cracked me up so much! Check out Peanut's expression to having her face squeezed and kissed...priceless!
Happy Birthday Dobbie!

Last week we went to see Daddy's sister's family for a few days. We celebrated Christmas with them while there. The kids had a blast playing together. Peanut adores her cousins so much. We are grateful to have the times that we do get together but do wish there were more. We missed daddy's brother's family greatly while we celebrated. It's not the same when we can't all be together.

Daddy's sister is very creative and wrote a special story about a Sock Monkey that she read to all of us before opening presents. She then presented Peanut with her own sock monkey that sister-in-law had made. It is super cute!

We got home late on New Year's Eve and had a special surprise for Peanut the next day! We took her to see Sesame Street Live. She really enjoyed it and by far her favorite was Elmo. Any time he left the stage, she would ask, "Where Elmo go?" She kept close tabs on her favorite red monster. She had fun singing those songs she knows so well and clapping along with the cast. It really was well done. We thoroughly enjoyed it!

After our time with Elmo, we headed out to spend the evening with some friends who are living in Texas and were back for the holidays. We had so much fun catching up with them and seeing their beautiful new addition to the family. Their sweet little daughter was born 3 months ago and is just adorable. Peanut was in awe of this real live little baby! She also had fun playing with the baby's older brother who is 6 months younger than Peanut. We always cherish our times with these friends. (Thank you to Back Door for so graciously having us all over. We have enjoyed our fun times with you also over the past couple of weeks!)

I have to share one quick little story before I let you go....
The night that we arrived at Daddy's sisters, the kiddos wanted to open the presents. Afterward they got busy playing together and Peanut discovered candy canes that had been on various packages. She desperately wanted one but Mommy said, "No, not tonight. Maybe tomorrow." She seemed to move on but Daddy and I watched her do the following a few minutes later. She picked a candy cane up, unzipped her pajamas, stuck the candy cane inside, and zipped her pajamas back up!!! We were in awe and in disbelief that our sweet little 2 1/2 year old baby girl seemed to be sneaking her candy and saving it for later. I quickly removed the candy cane from her pj's, trying to hide my laughter! Oh boy....and who thinks that sneakiness is a learned behavior?

And now I'm done. I hope you have enjoyed all these pictures and snippets of our special holidays! We are so blessed by such wonderful times with family and friends! We hope you are all doing well and had a great holiday time with family and friends!
