Thanksgiving 2008

Happy Girl
I am sitting here listening to the new Rosie Thomas Christmas cd. That will make hubby very excited. I should be busy decorating for Christmas but I think I'm going to work on that tomorrow. We're supposed to get snow and I need snow to decorate. Ha! Peanut and I just watched the first half of The Polar Express together and she was completely mesmerized by it. It was so fun to watch her expressions and hear her oooohs and aaaahs during the movie. We'll watch the rest after naptime. It is so fun to see Christmas through her eyes this year. She is so taken with the holiday decorations going up and the Christmas music. I hope the next few weeks go nice and slow so we can just enjoy our holiday together as a family.
Preparation
We had a really good Thanksgiving. Dobbie and Papa invited us and Gigi to come over for dinner. Daddy's sister and her family were going to come but their plans changed. Then we decided to invite some of the boys from the group home that Daddy works at to come. That also fell through due to some bad behavior on their part. So it was just Dobbie, Papa, Daddy, Peanut, Gigi and I and ALOT of food! It was a wonderful day mixed with a feeling of missing Mimi. I knew the holidays would do that. Even Peanut asked about her and then quickly added, "Mimi with Desus (Jesus)." She will not be forgotten!

We helped Dobbie on Wednesday evening make some of the yummy food for Thursday so she wouldn't have so much to do before the meal. Peanut had a ball helping. Watch out Rachael Ray!

She was very excited to have her Grandpas, Grandma, Daddy and Mommy all together on Thanksgiving.

As you can see there was lots of wonderful food. We are so blessed!

We all are very thankful for family! They mean so much to us, those near and those far! We love you all and hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving.

And I just now realized, there is no picture of Mommy and Peanut together. Isn't that how it always goes? Well, I was there too, feeling very pregnant by the way! We are so thankful for a smooth sailing pregnancy thus far. The baby is VERY active. It has found my bladder to be a good punching bag already. I love, love, love feeling all the movements. There is NOTHING in the world like it. We are at 21 weeks now, just over halfway!

Well, I'm off to drink some hot chocolate, watch a good chick flick, and get my Christmas cards finished. I will post the pics that we are including in our cards soon. Wanted to get them mailed out before I put up that up. :)

Love you all!

What We've Been Up To

I think we are finally all healthy. Daddy ended up getting sick last Friday and Saturday too. He thought he had skated through it, but had not. He was able to go to work on Sunday. Peanut and I spent the evening with Dobbie and Papa and celebrated Papa's birthday with him.

Peanut is going through a new movie phase. She has a new favorite movie that she asks to watch about as much as Elmo. It is Audrey Hepburn's musical Funny Face with Fred Astaire. It cracks us up that she loves it so much. It is fine with Mommy because I love Audrey! Peanut likes to dance and sing along with the cast too.

We have been working with Peanut on her colors. Right now I think her favorite color is green or as she says, "deen" because she calls everything green! The other night we spent some time working on color recognition with some of her Halloween treats. We opened a pack of snack sized M&M's and went over the colors. We matched each M&M to a matching color circle on a paper. She had alot of fun with this activity. Her favorite part was eating each M&M after saying it's name and matching it. She did really well with the matching part. We were very proud of her.

And in honor of Thanksgiving, we made a turkey. I traced Peanut's hands and we glued the cut out hands for the turkey's feathers. She glued on the eyes, nose, and wattle. She also quickly learned what a turkey says, "daba, daba," for gobble, gobble.

A Cute Little Sicky

This morning Peanut woke up at 6 a.m.  I put her in bed with us and discovered she was very cold and clammy.  Around 8:30 a.m. I checked her again and she was very sweaty and her heart was racing but no temperature.  At 10:00 a.m. she finally came downstairs and laid on the couch.  She drank some juice and had just a little yogurt.  I was anxious to see if she could keep it down.  At 10:30 the doctor's office returned my phone call from earlier in the morning and advised to bring her in since she was so lethargic.  She slept until our appointment at 1:30 p.m.  Her heart was still beating fast but was a result of being sick.  It's the flu bug!  Poor thing!  She has been laying around now since we got home.  That is fine with me since I am recovering from my bug too.  I am so worn out today.  I am showered and dressed though!  That is progress.  A trip to Wal-Mart was more than I could take, though and I passed out on the floor for a while.  It's amazing how worn out being sick can make us.

And just so you know 6 out of 8 adults from that big group picture in the previous post got sick and 9 out of the 15 kids got sick!  We just put it all together today through emails back and forth.  And it was passed on to other family members in the various homes after us who were infected got home.

One friend called the restaurant where we ate to let them know and of course they pleaded innocence.  They told her there no other complaints and no employees were sick.  Ha!  Like an employee who was sick would tell them!  We think they had a sick cook or something.

It is almost 6 p.m. and Peanut is playing at her little market/kitchen thing.  This is the first that she has really been up doing anything all day!

And guess who just went poopy in her potty for the first time ever...Peanut.  She came and told us she had to go, so I took her in and she went!  We are not seriously training right now, so I guess we will be.  Anyone know where I can find some plastic underpants covers?  I really want to use those with panties versus pull-ups all the time.

Friends and the Flu

We had some fun times with friends a few days ago. Last Thursday night we were invited over to some friends' for dessert and games. Watching our kids play together was alot of fun on top of the yummy Autumn Cheesecake and several rounds of Dutch Blitz. The girls had a ball jumping on the bed together.

On Friday after a flurry of cleaning and getting my house in order, Peanut and I were delighted to have some friends over for a slumber party. Friend's hubby was at a youth all-nighter and my hubby was working. So it was girl's night! We of course took good care of our kiddos then tucked them into bed for sweet dreams.

Friend made a yummy stromboli for us for supper. It was very good. Thank you, friend. Here are some fun supper pics because I know you are all dying for supper pics.

After supper the kiddos watched a bit of a movie, pushed each other in the wagon, and played forever going up and down our stairs. They had a ball together. They are at the stage where they talk to each other, which was the best part, listening to toddler conversation.

After the kids were sweetly sleeping, friend and I made a dish of yummy apple dumplings or apple dumplins' as I call them and was made fun of for. :) The recipe is from The Pioneer Woman Cooks blog. Daddy got home in time to enjoy dessert. It was super yummy and super sweet. Friend and I also viewed some episodes of Season 4 of The Office together. We both adore this show and have fun watching old episodes together. Unfortunately, I didn't make it very far this time. I think I started snoozing pretty early. Sorry friend!

On Saturday I was invited to crash a lunch party friend was having with some of her college buddies. I knew all of them from college too but not as well as friend. I was thrilled to join them and catch up on what they have been up to since college. They are a bunch of really sweet girls. I know most of them read this blog, so thanks girls! It was a bit chaotic with all of the kids but so sweet.

Thank you friend for a wonderful time together. I always enjoy these times!

Unfortunately, 4 out of 8 of the adults at that lunch get together got the flu after and sadly, I am one of them. It hit me on Monday morning and got progressively worse. I was down all day yesterday and today. My stomach still hurts really bad but I am hoping the worst is behind. I usually get the 24 hour bug and not anything longer so this has been really yucky. So far Daddy and Peanut have not gotten it. I have stayed away from Peanut which is really difficult but I don't want her sick. Daddy just carries a can of Lysol around with him everywhere. I think he sprays me down while I am sleeping. Not sure about that. :)

Fall!

We have had some beautiful fall days lately. Peanut got to enjoy some fun in the leaves finally! Here are some pretty "toot" (cute, as Peanut says it) pictures of her playing in the leaves. She played for at least an hour in them. Needless to say she is passed out taking a nap now.
