Staying with Mimi

Tuesday evening of this past week, Gigi called to let us know that Mimi had been put on oxygen. Her breathing was labored when the hospice nurse came and she recommended oxygen. Peanut and I headed out the next day to their house. Mimi had a hard day. Gigi couldn't get her to eat all day. He was pretty worried, so he called hospice. They told him that things were not looking good and the end was getting much closer. I decided to run home and pack a few things to stay with them through the weekend. Daddy came too and stayed until Friday when he had to go back to work. Peanut and I just got home tonight.
Staying with Mimi and Gigi
The past few days have been a blur of family and friends calling and visiting and Hospice stopping in to check on Mimi. Her pulse has slowed down, her lungs are filling with secretions causing a crackling sound when she breathes at times, and she isn't able to eat much at all. At different times, Gigi was able to get more in her than other times. She chokes so easily now and he has to stop when she displays any signs of choking in the least. Her body isn't strong enough to cough when she has a choking fit. She is much weaker.

Even in the difficulty of the situation our stay with them was good. It felt right to be there. It was so good to talk to and see people we hadn't seen in a while. It is difficult for some to come see her right now and I understand this. It is a hard thing to see someone you know in this state. It is a vicious illness.
Staying with Mimi and Gigi
I have no idea what the near future holds but will keep you all posted. She is a fighter and the Lord just isn't ready to call her home yet. We know the time is coming though. We know that soon her body will be healed and she will be made perfect. Right now we cherish each moment we are given with her, especially the moments that Peanut is given.
Staying with Mimi and Gigi
Amidst all the visitors and things going on at Gigi's, there was fun to be had...tractor rides, swinging, pumpkin picking, pumpkin carving, coloring, playing with playdough and much more. Peanut did well with the long visit. I am so glad because I think there will be more to come.

Thank you to Dobbie for bringing us goodies, meals and dropping in to see us! You are amazing and we love you!

50th Wedding Anniversary

Yesterday we celebrated my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. We had a small party for close friends and family. It all went perfectly. The weather was gorgeous. And I had such incredible help. The past few weeks I cleaned every nook and cranny in my parent's home. Daddy helped me paint some trim and things and weeded flower beds. Peanut helped keep Gigi busy so we could work, work, work. :)
50th Wedding Anniversary
Gigi's sisters were a great help to me. They helped me so much in the planning and preparation! I could not have pulled this all off without them.

We also had super yummy food. We had cheesy dip with chips, broccoli salad, ham salad on homemade sourdough rolls, potato casserole, homemade cream cheese mints, nuts, and yummy punch. Are your mouths watering yet? They should be because it was all great. My aunts and cousins all helped me out with these things!
50th Wedding Anniversary
I decided I would take on the cake. In the midst of it all, I thought I had gone mad to decide this but now I am so glad that I did. It was fun. I was happy with how it turned out. I made Lady Baltimore Cake with Lemon Curd filling and Buttercream icing. They were simple but cute. Yellow was our theme color since it was the golden anniversary. I also used pale blue which was the color of my mother's maid of honor's dress.

We put my mom's wedding dress on display along with her wedding album. I also dug out their wedding cards and displayed them all over. Some friends of Gigi's set up awnings outside with tables underneath which my aunt got all gussied up. We used mini white lights and mums to decorate with. Dobbie also was so sweet and made a beautiful quilt that the guests signed for Gigi and Mimi.

Daddy spent some really late nights this week putting together a video of pictures from Gigi and Mimi's 50 years. He even found the songs that Mimi and Gigi used in their wedding for the background music. It was so nice!!!! Everyone loved it so much!

Peanut was a hit at the party. She loved all the attention and especially liked drinking punch out of a real cup!
50th Wedding Anniversary
Needless to say, we were exhausted today. Poor Daddy had to go back to work but Peanut and I vegged out all day. We slept in a bit, then celebrated our successful party by going out for breakfast togehter. We hit WalMart and found some great new pillows for our couch for $3.00 each!!!! Peanut was so pooped that she took an almost 5 hour nap! And went to bed at her regular bed time.
Exhausted
I am relieved that the party is over but a little sad too. It took alot of work but then the party was so fast. It was so wonderful to see my dad having so much fun and just enjoying himself. It was something he definetely deserved as did Mimi. The gift of friendship and fellowship was the best gift for them right now.

A Big Project

We have been busy working at Gigi and Mimi's getting ready for their 50th anniversary. We have been cleaning away at their house. Their anniversary is this coming Saturday. We aren't having a big to-do, due to Mimi's health. Just a few close friends and family coming by. But still it is reason to CLEAN and prepare. I will be a little relieved when it is over. I can't believe how fast it came. I will definitely post more about it afterwards.

On to other things...I have been working on a big project other than my parent's anniversary. I started it about 10 weeks ago, but wanted to wait to tell you. I am really excited about how well it is going. I took up sewing over the summer and this project in a way has enhanced some knitting skills. It's not nearly finished and won't be until spring. Trust me though, it will be worth the wait. I wanted to give you a little peak as to what I am working on.

Surprise! We have known for around the last 8 weeks. Things are going really well. We are super excited and trying to help Peanut understand the concept of being a big sister. We are walking in faith and know that the Lord's hand is on this little life within me that is being knit together. We cherish your prayers during this time! There will definitely be more news to come on this big project.

Real Quick

This is going to be real quick and mostly pictures. This past weekend our community held a huge festival and we took in all 4 days AND today was the first day back to work for me. I am EXHAUSTED. My brain waves are really weak so bear with me. I know my fans are waiting for pictures though, so everyone should be happy!

Two weekends ago Dobbie, Peanut and I headed to sister-in-law's house. SIL had made aprons for Dobbie to sell at her booth at the festival so we had to go pick them up, and have pizza, and spend a night in a motel so the kids could swim. All for a good cause....beautiful aprons. Peanut had a blast swimming with Dobbie and the cousins.

Peanut and her "buddy" gave each other a goodbye hug before we headed for home.

I caught Peanut in the kitchen trying to fix her Leap Frog fridge toy. (The batteries were dead.) She had found a screwdriver and was trying to unscrew the back! She makes her grandpas proud

Fix It Girl

As you know from a previous post Peanut was sick again. We found out it was a viral infection in her bronchial tubes. Thankfully it was not pneumonia. We kept up with her breathing treatments and cut them in half. That helped greatly with her hyped up mood. I have been able to survive them now. (I called Daddy at work that first night in tears, telling him there was no way I was going to survive the breathing treatments due to how "active" Peanut got after them. She had been caught scaling shelves...something she never does! It was bad. Thankfully Dobbie saw her reaction to them and had me call the office to see if we could halve the dose. Thanks Dobbie!) We visited the doctor again today and he said she sounded fine and her ears looked great. We have to do treatments through the weekend, then hopefully we have a clear bill of health for a long, long, long time!
Nebulizer

Peanut has started trying to dress herself. It doesn't matter whose clothes are laying around, she will try to put them on however she can. Today Daddy said she had his boxers and socks on!
Dress Up

Like I said at the beginning we had a busy festival-filled weekend. Dobbie had her booth at the festival and did well. We did hear from several vendors that sales were really down this year. We are all very proud of her dedication! Amidst all of our trips to see Dobbie, Peanut and I got to take in some fun things. We saw a hot air balloon launch on Saturday. On Sunday the hot air balloons came back in the evening for a balloon glow. It was really pretty. Afterwards we took in the fireworks which were great. Peanut loved the "boom-booms" as she called them. On Monday morning we took in the parade together. We had a great Mama/Daughter weekend. We missed Daddy but he was busy at work so we called to fill him in on our adventures.

This is all my brain can manage right now. Hope you all had a great Labor Day!
