Birthday with the Grandparents

Happy 2nd Birthday! Happy 2nd Birthday!
Here I am again! Last night we celebrated Peanut's birthday with her grandparents at Gigi's house. Dobbie, Papa, Gigi, Daddy, and I helped her celebrate. It was great fun! Peanut was so happy to have everyone together in her honor. We had a yummy supper of green beans, potatoes, and cucumbers from Gigi's garden. There was also sausage and blueberries. And for dessert, of course there was a homemade birthday cake. I chose a cow cake this year in honor of Peanut's infatuation with all things farm, such as cows, pigs, tractors, and dirt. I think Mr. Cow turned out pretty cute. Peanut did and kept saying, "Wan tow!" ("Want Cow!") all day at Gigi's. She also had a small fit when we sat down for supper and there was no cow on her tray. Heehee!
Happy 2nd Birthday! Happy 2nd Birthday! Happy 2nd Birthday!
To go along with the cake, Gigi and I made homemade ice cream. I love homemade ice cream and we haven't had it in quite a long time. Peanut's birthday was a good reason to make this yummy treat, and yummy it was. My aunt and uncle who live just down the road came down to for some treats too.

Peanut had fun opening her presents again. She got an Elmo medical kit, a sprinkler, a homemade baby doll dress and dolly diaper bag from Dobbie, a puzzle, coloring book and crayons. Fun stuff!
Happy 2nd Birthday! Happy 2nd Birthday!
Now the celebrating is over and we have a 2 year old. Wow!

Turning 2!

Zoo Trip
More posting! Can you believe it? I haven't done more than one post in a week for a long time! Hope you enjoy because I just uploaded 121 pictures from our camera onto our computer! It's been a busy 2 days! Peanut turned 2 and we went to the zoo! (Do you like my rhyming skills?)
Zoo Trip Zoo Trip
Saturday Peanut was still just a mess. She was tired and I am sure she still felt yucky. By Sunday we were ready to get out of the house, so we headed to our local zoo with Dobbie, Sister-in-Law and her 3 girls. I rented a wagon for Peanut to ride in so she wouldn't wear herself out, but just the short visit pooped her out. We spent the evening with the family then headed home for bed.
Zoo Trip
Monday was the big birthday day! Daddy met us at Pizza Hut for a birthday lunch together. We had big plans for our evening but everyone was so worn out from the past week that we decided to keep it low key and just celebrate at Dobbie and Papa's since the cousins were still in town. It was good for Peanut who was still pretty tired from the fun of last week and all that happened to her this weekend.
Happy 2nd Birthday!
Peanut got lots of fun new things. On the morning of her birthday I gave her a baby doll bed that my great uncle had made for my mom when she was a little girl. I remember playing with it quite a bit as a little girl too. It was a yucky brown color and in need of a new paint job. I used a pretty pale blue from Dobbie's plethora of left-over paints. It turned out so pretty. I wish I had taken a before picture for you. I also got creative and made a small scrappy quilt to put on top of the baby bed. I think it turned out really cute for not using a pattern and sewing at 12am the morning of her birthday! I even used my stitch in the ditch skills. Ha! And as a special treat I dug out my most favorite baby doll to give to Peanut. Her name is Suzie and Peanut calls her "Sooey".
Happy 2nd Birthday! Happy 2nd Birthday!
She also got....are you ready for this?......Panties and training pants!!!! Wow! Big girl! I guess training will commence sooner than later. She also got LeapFrog Fridge Phonics, a car seat for her baby doll, a book, a puzzle, a baby bottle, and stickers. She also got an apron that I made for her. She had fun wearing it most of the night.
Happy 2nd Birthday! Happy 2nd Birthday! Happy 2nd Birthday!
Tomorrow we will be having a small shindig with all of her grandparents at Gigi's house. I am attempting to make a birthday cow cake for her. Stay tuned for pictures!

Here are some cute pics from today of Peanut playing with some of her new things.
We had to run to Wal-Mart tonight and she had to take her baby doll in her new baby carrier from Dobbie. (When we got home, she put the baby to bed in the new baby doll bed.)
Going Bye Bye!
Then she proceeded to put on all of her new underwear!

That's the birthday news in a nutshell! I did forget that I did shed some tears on her birthday. I can't believe she is 2 and it just has been an emotional few days for me. I am so grateful for her health!

Bundle of Joy
It has been 2 years since you were born. Where have those years gone? We have had so many people tell us that the time will fly and we didn't want to believe them, but it is. You have grown so much and changed even more. We adore you more than words can say. You truly are the joy of our lives. What did we do with our time before you. Nothing has meant more to us than being your mama and daddy!

Yesterday the scariest thing that I have ever been through took place.

Peanut was truly worn out after our fun days with the cousins. On Thursday we spent the day with Gigi and Mimi. That night she went right to bed with no fussing and was out before I even left her room! At midnight we heard her wake up and cry. We both agreed that it was not the normal waking up and crying sound but one of fear. I went to get her and realized she was so hot and had a temperature. It was 102.8. After calling Papa who is an ER nurse and supervisor at a local hospital, I gave her some Motrin and we snuggled in bed together. She slept through until morning and hardly stirred when I got up.
Sick Baby
Now we were supposed to be taking care of my BFF's kids all weekend while she finished up at basic training in Texas. So in the morning I decided to take Peanut to the Doctor to see if whatever was going on was contagious even though her temp was back to normal. I suspected she would have an ear infection but it ended up being a virus of some sort and she was contagious. Thankfully the girl who already had BFF's kids was able to watch them longer. (Thank you!) We spent the day just resting and watching movies. Around 1:15 pm I noticed she felt hot again, so I took her temp and it was 101.5. We gave her some Tylenol and at 1:30 Daddy left for work.
I thought about taking her up to her crib for a nap but then decided we could just cuddle on the floor. (I believe this was Divine Intervention because I always put her in her crib for her nap. I am a sleep Nazi.) Instead we spread a blanket on the floor and Peanut got the pillows from the couch. We laid down and started watching a movie. Just a few minutes into the movie I noticed she rolled onto her side and looked like she was falling asleep. I glanced again and noticed she was moving her arm strangely and had a funny look in her eye. I moved closer to see what she was doing and realized she was having a seizure.

I thought I had experienced panic before in my life but realized I had not because what filled my entire being had to be sheer panic, something I had never felt before in my life. I moved her to her side. She felt totally stiff as her little body shook. It was awful! Then she went limp and her eyes rolled back into her head and her lips were blue and she was drooling. Everything I had learned in CPR went flying right out of my mind in that moment. I called 911 and realized I was shaking so bad I could hardly dial the number. The woman on the other end was completely calm and reassuring. At this point Peanut was unresponsive to me. Slowly she began to open her eyes and quietly she said, "CeCe." I knew she was ok because she talks nonstop about her cousin Cece! I called Daddy and told him to get home FAST. (He told me he was also in a panic and almost did a u-turn right in the lane he was in but realized he would be heading into traffic! And then one of the roads he was on had a semi sitting across it, so he had to go through a yard and driveway to get aroudn it!) I heard the sirens and knew help was coming. The EMTs and a policeman arrived. One of the EMTs was a friend we had gone to church with and he was so reassuring about everything. I was still feeling panicky and crying. Peanut was completely unaware of these 3 uniformed men in our living room as she was exhausted and couldn't keep her eyes open. They had me call our family doctor's office who said to bring her right in and they would see her. The EMTs waited until Daddy got home, then they left after offering to follow us to the doctor's office.

We rushed to the doctor's office with our sleeping little girl and they let us right in. He checked her out completely and reassured us that she was fine. The seizure was fever induced, a febrile seizure. Her temperature at that point was 102.5. He assured us that she didn't need any tests run. He said that if she had had the seizure without a trigger like the fever then they would be concerned and run tests to check it out. So the positive side is that we don't have to worry about anything being wrong with her and she will outgrow these. The negative side is that anytime she has a fever, we can run the risk of her having more seizures. Both Papa and her Daddy had them when they were small. If there is a family history of them, the chances are higher for a child to have them but only 2-4% of children have them. I will certainly be pushing the Tylenol and Motrin now whenever I even think her temperature is rising!

We brought Peanut home and held her closer and tighter, thankful, so very thankful that she was ok. She did not look or act like herself for the rest of the night. Her color was bad and her eyes just looked different. She was also a mess....crying so easily and falling or tripping numerous times. I'm sure her body ached, she probably had a headache and it just seemed that her equilibrium was off. We put cool washcloths on her and gave her Motrin. This all helped her temp come down pretty quickly after we got home. We spent most of our time on the floor cuddling. At bedtime she and I went to bed together. I couldn't bear the thought of putting her in her crib for the whole night alone.

She did fine all night and hasn't run a temperature since yesterday afternoon. Today she seems to be feeling much better but is still so tired. She kept falling asleep at lunch so now she is tucked into her crib for a good nap. I prayed for her before putting her down and gave her another dose of Motrin as a preventive measure as it was difficult for me to put her in her crib. I just keep picturing the seizure over and over. It was awful. BUT she sleeps best in her crib, and she needs sleep. Today I am thankful for 911, EMT's, compassionate doctors, speeding Daddy, caring grandparents, aunts, and cousins and fever reducing medicine!

Thank you, Lord for keeping our little girl safe!

This morning as I was washing dishes, I heard a strange slurping noise coming from behind me where Peanut was in her high chair eating yogurt for breakfast. I turned around to find an utter look of disgust on Peanut's face as our cat was slurping her yogurt! He had climbed on the table and started eating her breakfast. She wasn't sure what to think. My immediate response was, "Get the camera! This is great for a blog post!" Ha! Don't worry, she didn't eat anything he had licked and I got her all cleaned up.

Yuck! Yuck

The End to a Busy Week

The Relatives are Here! The Relatives are Here!
On Wednesday we spent our last day with the family. Peanut was pretty fried and had MANY melt downs that day! She did spend time between melting episodes to play with her cousins.
The Relatives are Here! The Relatives are Here!
Later in the afternoon one set of family took off with the Daddy's sister's family not far behind. Poor sister-in-law headed down the driveway only to have her vehicle completely die! Papa looked at it and said it was something with the fuses, an electrical problem. He said it could have happened anywhere. We were all so thankful it happened in the driveway and not on the interstate or highway. So she and her 3 girls trudged back to the cabin. The girls were happy but sister-in-law was truly frustrated with her vehicle that they have been having some serious problems with and it is pretty new.
The Relatives are Here!
On Thursday she found out that the closest mechanic that works through a dealer who can fix her vehicle was an hour away ANDDDDD on vacation until Monday! So she and her girls are still here enjoying their time with Dobbie and Papa!
The Relatives are Here! The Relatives are Here!
Unfortunately we haven't gotten to see much of them since Wednesday. Thursday we headed to Gigi and Mimi's to see them and help Gigi get his back room in order after our wall papering escapade last Friday. (When we got there we saw that the border had all come down! Bless my dear Aunt who stopped by quick and helped rehang it!) Then Peanut got sick. More on that in another post.

We had so much fun with the cousins and aunts. It is always so fun to catch up and just be together. Bless Dobbie who worked her tail off to make quilts with the older kids! She was worn out.

Here are some pics of all the cousins together. Daddy is in the pic because Peanut was having a complete meltdown!

Going to the Beeps

(In case you are wondering, "beeps" is Peanut's word for "beach". ) The Relatives are Here!
The relatives are here. I am home and was dying to get some pics up for you, our most loyal readers. We have had a wonderful and fun week. Tomorrow it comes to an end, though. We love to have the family here. Our nieces and nephew are all incredible and we love them so much along with their moms and dads.
The Relatives are Here! The Relatives are Here!
The relatives got here on Saturday. Sunday and Monday we just spent the days lounging at Dobbie and Papa's cabin. The kiddos all had fun catching up and playing. Dobbie has been making quilts with them on her longarm quilting machine. Daddy and Papa are teaching some of the older kids how to play euchre. The women...well we are chasing the kids, cooking, and cleaning the kitchen over and over again. Having this week always makes us long for living in closer proximity to each other.
The Relatives are Here! The Relatives are Here!
Peanut has loved the attention she is getting from her older cousins and the time spent with the cousin her age. They have had alot of practice learning how to share with each other this week. She has also had some VERY late nights! She crashes when we get home.
The Relatives are Here!
Today we took everyone to the Warren Dunes State Park. It was a wonderful day together. The weather was actually pretty cool and the water was so choppy that the kids couldn't really get in and swim. They played on the edge in the waves and in the sand. Daddy took 3 of the older cousins up the huge sand mountain.
The Relatives are Here! The Relatives are Here!
This was Peanut's first experience with the lake and the beach. She didn't know what to think at first but after awhile loved it. She loved standing at the water's edge and having the water swirl around her ankles. She also had fun demolishing the sand castles that were being built by her cousins. I think the beach was a hit with her.

The Relatives are Here!
And to announce....Peanut went on the potty for the first time tonight. Daddy practiced with her on her cousin's potty chair and she did it! So the adventure will begin! Prayer...I need prayer!
