Celebrating with Mommy and Daddy

Last night Kev and I took Cora out to celebrate her birthday together. We started the evening off with supper at Applebee's. Cora got a pretty pink balloon and thought that was the best thing ever. She played with it anytime we were in the car, squealing with delight or babbling away to it.

After supper we headed to Coldstone Creamery to use Cora's birthday coupon. She was nice enough to share her free yummy sundae with me. What a thoughtful little girl we have.

After getting sugar highs from our ice cream, we took Cora to the Notre Dame campus and walked around. We just kind of ended up there. It really is a beautiful campus. We walked through the Sacred Heart Basilica and amazingly, Cora was nice and quiet. Then we found the pond and saw many ducks, geese, and swans. Cora thought they were pretty funny to watch and giggled away.

We took some cute pics of our little one year old among the flowers on the campus. We sure think she is a cutie pie!

Daddy thought it would be fun to run through the sprinkler with Cora as we walked back to our car. Cora got pretty wet and as you can see below, thought it was pretty fun.

Cora played with her balloon most of the way home before falling asleep, while Daddy and I sipped on Starbucks. After getting home Cora was awake enough to open her birthday presents from us. My favorite thing that we gave her was the LeapFrog Magnetic Farm Animal Set. I think it is so cute and it is magnetic so it will be a fun toy to keep on the refridgerator.

We also started a birthday tradition with her. Each year we will give her a special hardcover book that we will write a special note inside, then someday she'll have a special collection for her own children. We had gotten the book God Gave Us You by Lisa Tawn Bergen for Cora before she was born. It is a wonderful book and still makes me cry. This year I found another special book, On the Night You Were Born by Nancy Tillman.

Cora did a great job opening her gifts. We were both a bit shocked. She knew to pull the paper until she could get to whatever was inside.

Today Cora and I visited Grandpa and Grandma. Cora got to "help" Grandpa and I snip green beans. She had fun playing with the beans and chewing on them. Too funny!

Birthday Girl

Cora's first birthday was yesterday. She's one now. It's crazy to us. Daddy had to work on Cora's birthday so Dobbie and Papa took us to Grandma and Grandpa's. We brought pizza with us and had a fun evening together. Grandpa and Papa had lots to talk about between gyrocopters, cars, and mechanical things.

I delved back into my cake decorating days. I took cake decorating when I was in 4-H and enjoyed it. My mom was an avid cake decorator. I have fond memories of cakes and frosting strewn all over the kitchen especially during the graduation season. So somewhere within me, there is a cake decorator. I found these cute chick cupcakes on the Wilton website. I think they turned out pretty cute especially since it was my first time in many years. It really is fun to do. I felt a great sense of pride to have made them on my own.

Cora was very eager to test them out. She had seen them and wouldn't leave us alone until we let her dig into one. She once again completely enjoyed herself while eating up the cupcake.

Cora wasn't too sure what to think about opening her own gifts. She did pretty well. Dobbie and Papa got her a fun new addition for her Fisher Price Circus Train (which Daddy and I had gotten her for Christmas), a pretty outfit for fall, and a very cute 5 Silly Monkeys book with hand puppet. Grandpa and Grandma got her a cute denim hat (we'll have to learn how to keep hats on our head first!) and her own princess chair. She loved everything. We think she liked how soft the chair was because she kept putting her head on the seat.

Cora is in her diaper because I didn't want frosting and cake smeared into her pretty birthday dress so we took it off. We just never got her back into it. Oh well...who can resist a baby in a diaper! Too cute!

Cora and I had a date this evening. Daddy is at work again today so we were on our own. We took a nice afternoon nap, then headed to the local park. I took some pics of Cora in her pretty dress. We took a walk along the River Walkway and enjoyed the beautiful evening. After our walk we spread out a blanket under a shade tree and played, ate Cheerios, and pulled up grass. Then Cora and I went out to eat together for supper. There were two elderly women sitting near us. It was fun to watch Cora interact with them. They loved it. After supper we came home and enjoyed some time together before bedtime. It was a fun evening with my 1 year-old.

Tomorrow Daddy and I will celebrate Cora's birthday together and give her the things we got for her.

Happy Birthday Beautiful!

It's here! She is 1! Where has a year gone?

We love you so much, little Peanut! Happy First Birthday!

Happy Birthday
By: Innocence Mission

When you wake up sun will shine.
We will not go under any cloud.
Let balloons go up in town,
ring out every bell.
Happy birthday, beautiful,
all the birds of this day
sing a song, sing a song.

Dream of trains carrying you
through the state parks with the cherry flowers.
When you wake up it will be
the beginning of the world.
Happy birthday, beautiful,
in the fields of this day
hear a song, hear a song.

Oh, undeserved sweetness and light,
stay by my side.
We will go out in the morning now,
a crown of maple leaves, a crown of flowers
circling your sweet head.
Happy birthday, beautiful,
in the streets of this day
play a song, play a song.

(Lyrics to song played in video in previous post.)

One year ago from this moment, we were calling our parents to tell them that I was in labor! Where has a year gone? I can NOT believe our baby girl will be 1 in 2 days! (Yes, labor lasted almost 2 full days for me....36 hours! I have good memories from it, though!) I am in utter disbelief that it is has been a year already!

By the way...when putting Cora to bed tonight, we discovered that her bottom two teeth are breaking through!!!!! These will be her first teeth so far. The top ones haven't done anything.

Here is my second blog today dedicated to our family visit. We are having some car issues, so since Daddy had gone to work for the day on Saturday, I was stranded. Cora woke up at 7 a.m. only to fall back to sleep with me after eating. She slept until almost 10:45 (Mommy did not). We got ready and called Dobbie to see if she could come pick us up. We waited and waited but no one came. We ate lunch, no one came. We played, no one came. Cora fell asleep while I was rocking her and Dobbie came. She went on about how lunch had been chaotic and they had gotten busy. She also said she had to make a stop for some ice cream. It was around 2 p.m. before we got to the cabin.

We walked in to find streamers and balloons and heard, "Surprise!" They had been stalling to come get us because they wanted to throw a surprise birthday party for Cora. She didn't really understand the surprise, so in essensce that was for Mommy! It was so fun. They had Dora the Explorer hats and napkins. Cora let us get a birthday hat on her and she didn't bother it! We also celebrated two of the other cousins' birthdays too. They are all the ones with summer birthdays. Cora got her own cupcake to devour. She looked at it sitting on the high chair, picked it up and crammed it into her mouth. She did an amazing job of getting messy and ate the whole thing. One of the cousins also gave her a marshmallow cake and she crammed that into her mouth and went to town. (The high chair that she is sitting in is the same high chair that her daddy celebrated his 1st birthday in too!)

I love this picture because Cora held her hand out to her cousin. It was covered in frosting and cake, very messy. Instead of just smiling at her, he held her hand!!!! What a good cousin!!!! He is such a nice boy!

After her yummy treats, she got a bath! I think I'll be finding chocolate cake in her nose for a few days.

The cousins spent the afternoon swimming in the pond and playing. Cora enjoyed watching everybody, feeling pretty full.

After swimming, Dobbie and the girls made a yummy supper to share together. Then we headed out for a ride. Some of the cousins were really wanting to see some Amish homes so we drove through a nearby Amish community, then headed to see Papa's gyrocopter. He doesn't have the rotors on it yet nor is he done with his training, so he took the older cousins for a ride as he taxied it up and down the runway. Cora got to sit in it with him too.

Once we got back to the cabin, Cora opened her birthday presents. She got a Cinderella "cell phone" that makes all sorts of sounds. She is pretty fascinated with that. She got lots of other nice things. It was a wonderful surprise!

We spent the evening trying to stay awake from our late nights, drinking coffee and chatting. The end of our visit had come. That part always comes too fast and the times in between visits take too long. BUT everyone was healthy during this vist! That is nothing short of a miracle.

6 days until my baby's one year birthday!!!!! I can not wrap my mind around this, even after our party with the family! It's too much to take in. (Even as she lays on the floor at this very minute having a fit because she's not getting her way, which I am choosing to ignore!)
